To go from musician to president is no small task, but after Michel Martelly known to the Haitians people as Sweet Mickey won the elections in Haiti, I reached out to one of my “Conscious” Haitian friend to get his opinion.
My question to him was – Is Sweet Micky what Haiti needs right now?
“Definitely he is the right person for the right time. His family was upper class, but he dropped out of school to be a musician. A field not respected by upper class. His music caters to the rebels. But his rebellion is to the hypocrisy of the ruling class, who robs and steals while the people suffer. Even the lovely Madame Mirlande Manigat his opponent, has been in politics for 20 years. As with all other politicians there was no result for the masses.
The people voted against the establishment!!. And the existing government pulled all stops to mess him up. Bringing back Jean-Claude Duvalier (nicknamed “Bébé Doc” or “Baby Doc” (born July 3, 1951) was thePresident of Haiti from 1971 until his overthrow by a popular uprisinging 1986. He succeeded his father,François “Papa Doc” Duvalier, as the ruler of Haiti upon his father’s death in 1971. ) and Jean-Bertrand Aristide (is a Haitian politician and former Catholic priest served as Haiti’s first democratically elected president) just before elections. Aristide and Duvalier the existing president both supported Mrs Manigat. The people rejected…this is a wonderful thing in the manipulators over did and lost the support of the people.
He is a hot head confrontation lover, so he will not tolerate bullshit and that’s what Haiti needs now. The main issue most people have with him is supposedly his immorality, but yet those same people never question the morality of corruption”.
