Kenya’s X-Tatic “Hit em up”

Back in the day when I was in Liberia, we use to get music and movies a little late, meaning months and sometimes even years unless it was a global or big artists. .. At that time there was no Youtube, Facebook, and the Internet was even more scarce in Africa than it is now (only about 16% of Africans have Internet access). Although I have been back home and know first hand this is not the case anymore, I was shocked to see how music specifically Hip Hop and R&B have influenced African Music.

After watching the video for X-Tatic song “Hit em up” I realized how global and blended our nation has become with American cultural. Don’t get me wrong…… The song is hot and she got nominated for Most Gifted Duo and Most Gifted Video for her song ‘Hit Em Up’ featuring Priddy Ugly by Africa’s prestigious “O Channel Music Video” awards. In addition, she inked a multi-album and full management deal with Sony Entertainment Music Africa in 2012 .

A piece from the article:

The 21-year-old was recently in Johannesburg, recording tracks for her debut full-length album with hot new producers ‘The Fahrenheitz’. The record will be released later in 2012 as part of the multi-album recording deal Xtatic has inked with Sony and is being preceded by the first single, ‘WILD!’ due to hit the airways in the next two weeks. Xtatic has also signed a full services management deal with Sony Music and ROCKSTAR4000, and worldwide Music Publishing deal with ROCKSTAR PUBLISHING, positioning her for a full assault on the South African, Nigerian, Kenyan, Pan African and, ultimately, global music scenes.

“We’re convinced that Xtatic has the kind of standout talent that will take her into many different markets and are thrilled to welcome her into the Sony recording family,” says RCA Africa Director, Spiro Damaskinos.

I guess those of us that are not on the continent miss the sounds of our music and want to stay true to our roots all while rejoicing in the progression of our continent. These days it seems Music is the telltale sign of that progression…
